Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary in Trivandrum

Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary in the southern state of Kerala in India is spread over the southeast corner of the Western Ghats.

Located approximately 32 km away from Thiruvananthapuram, the Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary sprawls across 12,000 hectares of natural vegetation. The sanctury provides a great opportunity to witness vibrant fauna and flora. Furthermore, adventure seekers can take on the vigorous climb up Agasthyamala Peak, which stands tall at 1868m. It is an ideal spot for a picnic and offers magnificent views of the slopes and meadows that give it its distinctive charm.


Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary in Trivandrum

The nearby Neyyar Dam, a part of the Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary, too is very popular for it provides picturesque surroundings perfect for families, friends and solo-travellers. It boasts of a beautiful Watch Tower, a Deer Park, a Lion Safari Park and a Crocodile Rehabilitation and Research Centre as well.

Neyyar Wildlife Sanctuary is the habitat of 39 species of mammals, 176 species of birds, 30 species of reptiles, 17 species of amphibians and 40 species of fishes. Some of the common mamals found here are the Asian Elephant, Tiger, Leopard, Slender Loris, sambar, barking deer, bonnet macaque, Nilgiri Langur, Nilgiri tahr and reptiles and amphibians like the King Cobra and Travancore Tortoise.

Neyyar Dam Boating

One can avail boating facilities at the reservoir which provides for a beautiful panoramic view of the area. Boating facilities are available at the reservoir. Neyyar Boat Club is being run by District Tourism Promotion Council (DTPC), Thiruvananthapuram here. Safari Boats and High-Speed Boats are available.

Neyyar Dam boat ride takes you through the pristine lush forest patch. Tourists can watch Agasthyakoodam (the second highest peak in Kerala), Western Ghats, Kottampuram, Kanimala, Kurishumala. and if you are lucky enough some wild animals too.

Neyyar Dam Boating Timings: 10.00 AM to 06.00 PM on all days

The sanctuary is CLOSED on Monday. Timings for the rest of the days is between 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM.
